Out On the Water This Summer
This summer we are excited to bring two paddling experiences to you:
Intro to Paddling -- June 7th
Westside Hike & Paddle '25 -- June 21st

Introduction to Paddling
Saturday, June 7th | 10AM - 2PM
This course is ideal for paddling beginners and folks who would like a bit of a refresher before tackling the waters this summer.

Westside Hike and Paddle'25
Saturday, June 21st | 9:30AM - 4:00PM
This is a family-friendly event. Participants will enjoy a guided nature hike, a lakeside lunch, and an afternoon kayaking tour on the reservoir All gear, food, and instruction included.

WAWA's Signature Events
WAWA’s purpose of the MLK Day of Service is to keep and instill the nostalgia of service with the cooperation of community and action. To provide actions to maintain stewardship, history, and beautification, as a “ Beloved Community”.
Campout
Food, fun, fellowship, hiking and a night of family camping under the stars. This event is especially geared for first-time campers. You will learn how to set up tents, roast marshmallows, make s’mores, take a night hike and witness top-notch entertainment including African storytelling and a vibrant drum circle.
During Black History Month, WAWA proudly presents several programming opportunities for community members of all ages. Each event or activity embraces and explores the mysticism, ingenuity, and culture of Black people.
Metro Atlanta Urban Waters Symposium
is a lively, interactive discussion focused on climate resiliency and environmental justice in and around Atlanta.
The Urban Forest Festival is a celebration of nature with specialized activities and workshops throughout all three locations of the Atlanta Children’s Forest Network: Lionel Hampton Beecher Preserve, Cascade Springs Nature Preserve, and the Outdoor Activity Center.
Westside Paddle Adventure
The first of its kind paddle adventure takes participants on a kayak ride down the westside portion of the Chattahoochee River for a historic and environmental tour.
Where Art, Nature and Community Intertwine
The old growth forest is a historic, serene and enchanting gem nestled in Atlanta's westside. We pride ourselves in hosting events that intertwine arts, nature and entertainment.
2022 Artist in Residence
Cassie’s Ballad, an immersive ritual and historic fable, follows the story of Brandon, a young Black teen living in Atlanta during the early 1980s. His friend Cassie has lost her voice after a child they know has gone missing. With the guidance of an Ancestor, Brandon leads the audience on a literal search for the missing child and a figurative search for Cassie’s voice. From the “Graveyard of Innocence” to Cassie’s Bottle Tree, the journey leads them to a sad but healing discovery.

2023 Artist in Residence
Inspired by regenerative agriculture, tenement housing in the Bronx, and dreams, Sariyah works as a painter, muralist and horticultural educator. Interested in Black spatial politics, embodied memory DIY sustainable art supplies, and Black & indigenous design motifs. She explores techniques using traditional supplies alongside foraged and hand processed materials.


2023 Sol Arts Festival
WAWA’s Inaugural SolART Festival explored the intersections of art and nature. In this Environmental Justice event, Atlantans witnessed dance, film, and further artistic expressions regarding the natural environment that surrounds us. Friday for Open Mic Night and Saturday for for Short Films. Enjoy vendors and afro-futurism in our food desert.
