Celebrating
Black History Month
This Black History Month, West Atlanta Watershed Alliance honors the creativity, resilience, and resourcefulness of our Black and African ancestors as expressed through the rich tradition of fabric crafts. From quilts and textiles to garments and ceremonial cloths, these works were far more than utilitarian objects—they were vessels of storytelling, cultural memory, and survival. Crafted from limited materials and often born out of necessity, fabric arts carried symbols of ancestry, resistance, and community care, stitching together histories that were otherwise denied space in the written record.

Black History Month
During Black History Month, we celebrate the ingenuity that transforms scraps into beauty and hardship into heritage, recognizing fabric crafts as a powerful form of expression that continues to inspire creativity, sustainability, and collective identity within our communities today.
